Sahan, the back-bone to Moochie’s and jack of all trades. When not at Moochie’s frothin’ coffees you’ll find him surfing, in the gym, hitting 6’s on the cricket pitch or rewatching every WSL heat on youtube.

Whilst a little shy, his beaming smile and optimistic energy is second to none. Proud to call Weligama home, but thriving to see the world. I sat down with Sahan and convinced him to be my first questionnaire candidate. A good laugh and intriguing first “Meet the team” post.

Ok firstly, what do you love the most about working at Moochie’s? Working with me everyday? HAHA you wish! Hmmmm. I like that I get to meet people from all parts of the world, share stories and then see them in the surf, I like that. I like that everyday I am learning too. Especially with latte art, soon I’ll be pro.

Do you have a favourite dish on the Moochie’s menu? Yah. Smashed avocado with two poached eggs on top. Its my favourite because I can eat it quickly while working, it fills me up and tastes so so good. I didn’t eat avocado before Moochie’s opened, but now I really love it.

What’s your idea of a perfect day off in Sri Lanka?  My perfect day off would be waking up early, checking the surf and seeing that there are nice clean waves. Coming home and making a coffee, then going for a long surf with friends. Then I would probably need a nap. In the afternoon I like to take Peanut (our dog) for a walk on the beach and watch the sunset with a cold lion beer.

Do you have a favourite surf spot in the South of Sri Lanka? Yes, I have two. Fisherman’s Bay because it’s only 5 minutes from home and I’m regular so love to surf rights. The other one is Kabalana because of its A-frame and amazing take off.

If you could travel to one country in world where would it be and why? Ever since I started surfing it’s been my dream to go to Hawaii, I really want to see Banzai Pipeline. I would also like to go to Western Australia but if I could only choose one, it would have to be Hawaii, America.

Lastly, whats next? Any goals for the future? Yes, I need to improve my English, that’s the first goal. Then I just want to work hard and save some money for traveling. This year I want to spend my travel money within Sri Lanka because of the Coronavirus, but maybe next year I’ll go back to Indonesia. Last time I was there we had some amazing waves in Lombok.
